Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) demonstrated they will be a force in this year’s Club Premiership after winning the first round at Narrabeen by a considerable margin.
The performance by SUAC was all the more impressive considering the way the competition scoring is set up – points are awarded across U14, U17, U20, Open, 35+, 50+ and combined to give a winner of each round.
There were many impressive performances especially from athletes competing outside their usual events; however SUAC’s outstanding young thrower and Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Andrew Giltrap was the club’s best performer.
Giltrap convincingly took out the open javelin with a throw of 63.80m, while he also won the shot put with 14.02m to beat his club mate Ben Cranney (12.73m).
