Sydney University Elite Athlete Program scholarship holder Murray Stewart was a member of the bronze medal-winning Australian crew in the men’s K4 1000m at the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg, Germany at the weekend.

Stewart and team-mates Jacob Clear, Matthew Urquhart and Tate Smith finished just over a second behind the Russian four, who won in 2:52.109, from Germany and Australia.

Stewart is now back in Australia for a month before heading back overseas to Hungary in preparation for the World Championships, which will be held in Szeged, Hungary, from August 17-21.

At this stage it looks like Stewart will be racing in both the K4 and K2 1000m, and possibly the K1 200m at the World Championships.
