Despite solid performances from both of the ACUVUE Sydney Uni Flames’ American imports, Rhonda Price and Lindsay Pluimer, the Flames were unable to knock off the second-placed Bulleen Boomers outfit, going down 69-76.
While there is still a chance that the Flames will make the 2009 finals, the loss to Bulleen today and the loss to Bendigo on Friday night are significant blows to Sydney Uni’s finals campaign.
The ACUVUE Sydney Uni Flames currently sit in sixth place and as only five teams can make the finals, the Flames will need to win all their remaining matches and rely on other teams to lose to qualify in fifth position.
“We are doing so many things right, but the shots just aren’t dropping,” said Sydney Uni Head Coach, Karen Dalton. “We need to work on shot selection to make sure the right people are taking the right shots.
“We’re not giving up just yet,” she added. “We are going to do everything we can to win our last few matches to give ourselves a chance to make the semis.”
ACUVUE SYDNEY UNI FLAMES 69 (Pluimer 19 points, Afeaki 16 points, Price 16 points) defeated by
BULLEEN BOOMERS 76 (Milner 19 points, Hammonds 12 points, Carr 12 points)
